My Mum's Rings

Dalgleish secret lives campaign215sm

“My love affair with jewellery started a long time ago, in South Africa, and I’ve never lost the passion for it. My story is about the rings on my right-hand ring finger in the photo, they once belonged to my Mum. They weren’t her original wedding rings, but her third – maybe that’s a wee hint as to where my fascination for jewellery came from - but that’s another story. The flower ring and the eternity ring were given to my Mum by my Dad for their 25th Wedding Anniversary. My Dad loved spoiling my mum and it didn’t need a special occasion for this to happen, but it was the 25th anniversary so he went and had the flower ring designed and made especially for her. My Mum loved it, but she was also a bit cross with Dad as he had gone for quality over size!! The eternity ring in the photo was also part of the Anniversary gift, but he had a special person to sell him that – yes, me, the start of my jewellery sales career. These became a well loved set along with an original wedding ring.
When I was emigrating to New Zealand, I was heartsore about leaving my family behind. At an emotional farewell at Johannesburg Airport my Mum took all three rings off her hand, of which she had always worn, never taken off, and placed them on my finger and said “Please wear these so you will always be close to me and always think of us.” The fit was perfect, and they are now on my finger every day, always reminding me of my beautiful Mum and Dad.
The rings are now surrounded by many others…. but they are new stories.”
